Dear Reader: On Why Any of This Had To Be Written Down
We are a manual with a masthead. Everything in these pages is real, testable, and faintly insulting in how obvious it turns out to be.

A word about what this paper is, so no one mistakes the joke for the method.
We collect ordinary problems and the plainly correct solutions that, for reasons of habit and bad design, almost nobody applies. The headlines are allowed to be absurd. The instructions are not. Every recipe can be cooked, every fix can be made, every figure can be checked. If you follow an entry literally, you should end up with a useful result — and a small, dignified annoyance that it had to be explained at all.
We hold ourselves to a simple standard. Every load-bearing claim is one of four things, and the entry says which: a cited source, a repeatable household test, a measured prototype, or an honestly labelled hypothesis. We do not run fake studies, fake experts, or fake products. We will, on occasion, name a popular remedy that does not work and say so plainly. Someone has to.
Our writers keep their own counsel and their own registers. The raccoon does not speak. Neither, in the end, do we — the work is meant to be used, not admired.
Read it, then go fix the thing.
